Definition: Voice Coil


An actuator motor; the force of the magnetic rotary voice coil produces a movement of the head that is proportionate to the force exerted by the coil.

Data block

A series of data elements handled as one unit. Typically a data block stored on disk is 512 bytes long (synonymous with sector). On tape the block size is normally greater and varies.
